Every business does not end its expenses at start up. You will constantly need to reinvest. Reinvestment can be new products to demo, samples, business materials such as catalog and brochures, advertising, and so on. But how much do you make in the end? I can ask a successful person and they have the answer. One who is not so successful will tell you the initial commission. Why? Because a successful person is always watching the bottom line and where all monies are going.
Always know what is coming in and what is going out. If you don't know these basic figures, who do you know what your profit is? Your profit is not your commission percentage. It is what comes in at the end of the day after your business expenses.
Track your mileage, prize cost that you give away, cost of catalogs, pens, anything you pay for to run your business. This is how you will find what it costs you to run your business and give you the end percentage you earn from sales.
Track money coming in and out using excel, quickbooks, an old fashion ledger. There are several programs and resources to help you keep on top of your business and watch your bottom line

No more excuses
Over the years I hear many excuses - I can't do parties, my company didn't teach me that, my customer wants this so I can't sell to that one, my company doesn't offer that. Excuse, excuse, excuse. There are others with the exact same company, with the exact same products, and the exact same opportunity and are successful. So throw out the excuses and start owning up to your business.
There are no excuses in business. You either do or don't. If you make a mistake, say so. Don't explain how you had no sleep, your child was sick all night, and your computer has 10 thousand viruses, and your dog ran away. Excuses only lead to more. You feel better about them and feel others are ok with it so they breed more excuses. This is when I call someone an excuse addict. You can't stop and even live for them even if only subconsciously.
Don't let excuses ruin your business and your name. You may think it directly affects only you but it doesn't. It can affect an entire business. You may represent Widget World but because of you and your lack of ability to correct an issue customers will not return to Widget World. Example how this works - ever gone to a restaurant and received bad service? Ever decided to not return due to the bad service? The restaurant didn't do anything wrong. It was the service yet you were so turned off you didn't give them a second chance. Same with the WAHM world. Avoid the excuses, own up to responsibility, stop giving you and your business lower value, and start being professional.
If your company doesn't offer it, create an alternative. If your company doesn't teach it, learn it elsewhere. If you can't do parties then find a creative way to get out there in front of your customers. Overcome the obstacle not create an excuse. The more excuses, the more failure.
Once you free yourself of the excuse addiction you will set a path towards success.

Goals Are Dreams Written Down
When you have big dreams, write them down. Don't be afraid of them. Don't be afraid to dream big.
If I asked you how much you want to make this year, would you choose:
a) $10,000
b) $25,000
c) $100,000
d) $500,000
You should have chosen e) none of the above. Always want more!
Don't settle for the choices someone else gives you. Create your own choices, dreams, and goals.

A life without purpose is like a ship without a rudder. The purpose of a goal is to focus your attention. Your mind will reach toward achievement only when it has a goal.
There is no achievement without goals. If you have no direction, how can you find success? Don't expect to stumble upon it.

Always have something ahead of you. Keep moving after you achieve your goals and set new ones. Momentum is maintained by always having something to look forward to. To build a successful business you MUST invest. There is no getting around this. Go half at it or cut corners and I will show you a half business with lots of mistakes and a date of doom.
It's OK to invest in yourself and your business through education, tools to make your work easier, etc. Try and find even one successful business out there that has had zero dollars ever invested in it. There aren't many. You have to invest in business cards, classes, and sacrifice. There is no such thing as fast money and you do nothing to earn it.
Invest in yourself and others will invest in you as well. They will see the time and money invested because you took the time to invest in yourself lending to your success. You will be knowledgeable, prepared, organized.
You will have to learn new skills and habits. Just like when you became a mom for the first time. You learned new skills and habits you never thought you could. You realized that you have a lot to learn and change in order to be a good mother. This is the same in business. You learn new skills to be a better business person and successful.
You will have to educate yourself if you don't want to be one of those that struggles constantly with their finances. You can't expect to just sign up for the latest make money idea and expect the checks to start rolling in automatically. Attend webinars, study those handbooks your company offers, take a marketing and accounting class at the local college.
Take the time to create success. You will find it was well worth the effort.

Success is one step at a time. It is not overnight and not without work. For some it is more than they are willing to give. If you want to start at the top you will need to dig a hole.
Everyone who got where they are now had to begin at the bottom. Don't look at where a successful persons is now. Look at where they were and how they go to where they are now. You will see sacrifice, hard work, and dedication.
Your opportunity for success is right in front of you. You just have to learn to recognize it when you see it. In the beginning you will create your own opportunities rather than wait for the opportunity. As you grow and learn you will begin to seize opportunities. Never wait for an opportunity. If you wait, it will pass you by not realizing it has.
To attain success or to reach your goal, don't worry about having all the answers in advance. You just need to have a clear idea of your goal and move toward it. The answers will follow as you move forward.
Don't procrastinate when faced with a difficult problem. You have to face a problem to solve it. Break your problems into smaller parts and handle each part at a time. You will be surprised how easy and quickly you can overcome these. Break your biggest goals into small steps and take the first step right away. Plan for Success
You need a plan to find success. Wanting success isn't sufficient enough to get it. You have to create a plan of action of work towards success. Ask yourself, "What are you going to do to get the things you want."
Before you begin, what is your definition of success? Maybe it is having a big house. Maybe it means making a million dollars. Maybe it is selling 5 products a month. Success is different for everyone so define success for you.
Know what it is you want. Write it down. Once you have a direction you need to create a path. That path is what you are going to do to obtain the success you desire.
The obstacle you must overcome is to bridge the gap which exists between where you are now and where you want to be. This is where your plan of action comes in. You can't avoid having a plan. Trying to "wing it" will only hold you down.
Your plan of action should be a step by step plan. You cannot fail with a definite step by step plan. Each step you take will carry you along to the next step. All you need is the plan, the path to follow, and the courage to move forward towards your goals.

Success Is Not Easy
We have been told the old tale of fast money and quick success. In the real world that we wake up to and breath every day, this is not true. Success and money take time and hard work. There is not money or success without work. If you want to prove me wrong, take that million dollar idea and tell just one person a week. If that is all you do, I give you 2 months before you quit.
Before you start, be realistic. What do what you love? I am not talking about what do you love to work. What do you love in love? What are you good at? Again this is in life not just work. What can you do in life? What are your strengths? This is the point you need to stop and write about who you are in every aspect of life. Sounds pointless? If you can't tell people about you and discover all that you love, how can you sell it to someone else when it really comes to making money?
What are your ultimate goals? If you have to have a goal to know where you are going. What are you willing to do to make those goals happen? Make a list. If that list is long, you need to think about is this really what you want to do? That list should be short and you should be willing to do just about everything it takes to reach those goals.
To reach success you need to have big goals and consistent action towards those goals every single day. Problem is you may have big goals but few are ever able to reach then. Its not because they are unattainable. Most give up. When they run into problems or too distracted by other things, they lose focus. This is a huge problem for many who decide to become a WAHM. Too many are sold the dream of staying home with the kids, little work, big pay. That is not how it works. WAHMs must work. WAHM means WORK at home mom/mother.
You must be honest with yourself when it comes to being a successful WAHM. You have to get your head out of fantasy land you read and hear about. It is not as easy as it seems. You also never see what it took to get there. Its a tough world. Everyone is out for themselves. You have to have tough skin and be willing to kick butt first and take names later. There is a lot of pressure in the world of business and you have to be willing to accept that. You will also come across many no's before you get a maybe. You will come across a lot of maybe's before you get that yes. It takes persistence and endurance.
You have to be willing to face all problems head on. Problem solving is not black and white. You must be creative. Sometimes those problems are scary but they must be faced and you must solve them to move forward. Don't expect others to help you solve problems. Nobody is going to hold your hand and help you along the way. You are on your own so you need to think that way.
You have to be willing to sacrifice. Don't put off something until tomorrow. For most people it never comes. If you aren't willing to do it today, you won't be able to do it period. Don't get lazy. If it needs to be done, do it. If you have an excuse not to do it, counter with an excuse to do it. Nothing ever gets accomplished by putting it off.
In the end nobody should ever care more about your success and money than you do. You must fight for these and never take no for an answer.

Its not because they are unattainable. Most give up. When they run into problems or too distracted by other things, they lose focus. This is a huge problem for many who decide to become a WAHM. Too many are sold the dream of staying home with the kids, little work, big pay. That is not how it works. WAHMs must work. WAHM means WORK at home mom/mother.
You must be honest with yourself when it comes to being a successful WAHM. You have to get your head out of fantasy land you read and hear about. It is not as easy as it seems. You also never see what it took to get there. Its a tough world. Everyone is out for themselves. You have to have tough skin and be willing to kick butt first and take names later. There is a lot of pressure in the world of business and you have to be willing to accept that. You will also come across many no's before you get a maybe. You will come across a lot of maybe's before you get that yes. It takes persistence and endurance.
You have to be willing to face all problems head on. Problem solving is not black and white. You must be creative. Sometimes those problems are scary but they must be faced and you must solve them to move forward. Don't expect others to help you solve problems. Nobody is going to hold your hand and help you along the way. You are on your own so you need to think that way.
You have to be willing to sacrifice. Don't put off something until tomorrow. For most people it never comes. If you aren't willing to do it today, you won't be able to do it period. Don't get lazy. If it needs to be done, do it. If you have an excuse not to do it, counter with an excuse to do it. Nothing ever gets accomplished by putting it off.
In the end nobody should ever care more about your success and money than you do. You must fight for these and never take no for an answer.

Be your own cheerleader
Becoming your own cheerleader can be the best business boost you will come across.Who has more faith in you than you?
You know your strengths. You know your weaknesses. You know your limits.
When a small success comes along others may not notice but these make you proud. As a WAHM you may find this to be very true more often than not.
Being your own cheerleader keeps you motivated.
The cheers of others is usually short lived. If you rely on this you will fall quickly. Don't let that happen.
If you are proud, celebrate. Treat yourself. With your first sale buy yourself something special. Feel how good that feels. Only you know how good that feels.
It's OK if others do not take notice. Don't let this affect your performance or drive. Keep moving forward.
So again be your own cheerleader. Enjoy all your successes even when others don't seem to notice.

What have you done for your business today?
Every day is a new opportunity for your business. Meet someone new, find a new advertising method, stumble across a new networking avenue. There is always something you can do everyday that is not always the same.
Before you say you can't do something everyday lets ask why? You committed to building a business. With that commitment comes sacrifice. Nobody likes to sacrifice but it is a necessary element when building a business. As a WAHM you do not have less sacrifices. As WAHM you may have more.
Sending out a website link is simply not enough. Sending out an ad is not enough. You have to actively interact with potential customers and close a sale, book parties, educate, network. When you think you have done enough, do more. Learn to effectively market your business. Marketing is more than advertising. It encompasses the overall strategy for success. As Yoda would say "Do or do not, there is no try".
Add value to yourself and ditch the sympathy and pity sale. Pity sales are those where you point out how you are needing money. This only tells people your business is not successful. It doesn't matter the reason and understanding. If you make no money, you are not succeeding. Steer clear of the guilt sale while you are at it. These are the sales that forces another into a sale because you "helped" them out so now its your turn. This is not harsh, this is reality.
So back to the original question, what did you do for your business today? No excuses. If you did nothing, own up to it and move on. Don't make a habit of it. Become a self-starter and self-motivated. As a WAHM working for yourself you have nobody telling you to get back to work. You are the boss now.
Every day you must do something for the good of your business. You cannot succeed doing nothing.

Think, dream, believe success
What is success to you? Is that being rich at the end of the day? Buying a brand new house? A new car? Opening a new store? Maybe a promotion at work?
For each and every one of us, success means something different. There is no right or wrong answer to this question.
If you have no idea what would make you successful, you need to sit down and write down all you feel makes YOU successful. You cannot work towards success without knowing what it means. Don't write down what makes others successful or what others believe is successful. This is about you and your desire to achieve a level of success within yourself and your business. You may find being able to have spending money for yourself is successful.
Once you know what success is to you, you can dream of success. Dream of all you want no matter how big or small. Think of success every day, all day. Believe you can be successful.
Dream success. Dream big. Dream bigger than you can imagine. Dreaming does not mean you have to reach an exalted level. It means you strive and desire for bigger and better. You want more. In your dreams you can have it all. Dream of it. You can have it all if you want it bad enough. Keep dreaming every day.
Think success. In every day life, think about your pending success. Think about your past and present success. As you think of your success you will want to move forward tot he next success. This is what drives you to keep moving forward. You may feel you are not a success but think about what you have achieved. You most likely have graduated high school. You may not believe this to be success but you have achieved something many others have not. You may have a family now. You are a success at raising your family. You live on your own. This is a success.
Believe success. You must believe you are successful. If you have achieved a goal in life, you have succeeded. That is success. Believe in what you can do. Believe you can go further. Believe you are a success.
As a WAHM you need to think, dream, and believe in your success. Without these 3 things you will not fulfill your desires of success in business. Success is for you. No such thing as "can't"
Someone may think I am crazy but I have decided there is no such thing as can't in business. While others may disagree here is why I have come up with this theory. You say you can't start a business because you don't have the money. The solution is to find the money. This is not a can't its a road block you can overcome. Can't is an attitude not an action.
You have a choice in everything you do. Everything can be worked around if you really want to. Its called drive. There is not can't in your drive for success.
Can't is also used as an excuse. While discussing plans to start building a business, one of my friends told me she "can't" do parties. I asked her why. She went on to explain because she has nobody to watch her kids. I asked her what was stopping her from starting with online parties. She could start this way to get a name for herself and gain sales. This would give her start up money to afford a babysitter while having a party or even doing a mommy and me party taking along a friend to watch her kids. Then it became another reason. It is not can't. That is an excuse for won't.
When you say can't, think about why you use this word. Is it unable or is it an "I won't"? Unable means there is a way around it. The man in a wheelchair playing basketball did not say he "can't" play. He found a way to play.
The only thing stopping you and your business success is your attitude. The rest can be done if you really want it to happen. Turn that "can't" into "can" and you will see a big change in your attitude.
Here is my challenge to you. Write down all your "cant's" and why they are. Then write down all possible ways to turn that "can't" into a can. These ways to turn that around may be more than 1 step. Write them all down.
Example: You "can't" pay your phone bill. Solution: You need money to change from "can't pay" to "can pay". How do you get more money? More hours at work, second job, yard sale, etc.
A "can't" to a "can" is not always a one step answer but it can be done.
My other challenge is for 1 week you cannot use the word "can't". Every time you do it will cost you $0.25, $1. If you don't have the money to take this challenge, then it isn't a challenge is it? This challenge cost nothing as long as you do not use the word "can't".
Success isn't easy otherwise everyone would be successful. Success isn't handed to you. If that were the case nobody would be successful. Its not about good or bad luck. Success doesn't come only during good times. It can also happen during the most dire of times. Its all about your attitude and your choice to deem "can't" as the new four letter word.
